Mr Justice Gross has been appointed judge in charge of the Commercial Court with effect from 1 October.

He will succeed Mr Justice Andrew Smith, whose term of office comes to an end on 30 September.

Gross will have overall responsibility for the listing of cases in the Commercial Court, and for all judges assigned to the court.

Gross was called to the bar in 1977 and became a High Court Judge in the Queen’s Bench Division in 2001. He was presiding judge for the south-eastern circuit between 2005 and 2008.

Gross is also a former chairman of the London Common Law and Commercial Bar Association, and a former chairman of the Bar Education and Training Committee and the Bar International Relations Committee.
