Partners at US-based Winston & Strawn and London-based Taylor Wessing have voted in favor of combining. The latest transatlantic merged firm will launch offcially as Winston Taylor in May.
The combination, announced in December, will create one of the world’s largest transatlantic law firms, with more than 1,400 lawyers primarily in the United States, the UK, and Europe.
Steve D’Amore, Winston's chairman, will continue as chairman of the combined firn while Shane Gleghorn, managing partner of Taylor Wessing UK, will serve as managing partner, Europe and Middle East.
Gleghorn said: 'This combination creates a transatlantic law firm in the major hubs of innovation and capital in the US, Europe, and the Middle East. Our clients require a firm with premier teams in those hubs in relation to critical transactions, litigation, IP and private wealth.'
As part of the combination, Taylor Wessing the Netherlands and Belgium have voted to enter an agreement to operate under the Winston Taylor brand. Winston Taylor has also agreed to a cooperation and referral arrangement with the legacy Taylor Wessing verein, in Germany and elsewhere.
The merger is the latest such deal as City firms race to build critical mass. It follows last year's announcement that Ashurst and US-based Perkins Coie would combine to create a top-20 global legal practice.
