TikTok may be banned on government devices following a cyber security review, but the Ministry of Justice has no plans to quit the video-sharing app... for security purposes.

Obiter had no idea the MoJ had an account on TikTok until Labour’s deputy leader Angela Rayner asked in a written parliamentary question when the department planned to shut it down.

Turns out Dominic Raab's department has two accounts: 'ministryofjusticeuk' and 'justicegovuk'.

Neither account is operational. ‘They have zero followers, follow zero accounts, have zero likes and have not shared any content. Staff do not access them,’ justice minister Mike Freer said.

So why have them? So no else can pose as the department, it seems.

Chinese-owned TikTok, which has just been hit with a £12.7m fine for data protection breaches, will be relieved to hear the justice ministry has no plans to close its accounts.
