What’s a runner to do when they miss out on a spot on the London Marathon? Brave the considerably tougher conditions of the Reykjavik Marathon of course.

Louise Hunt, a family law specialist at Blythe Liggins Solicitors in Leamington Spa, took Iceland’s more challenging option with her husband Ian last month, with both completing the course in the face of some bracing (and literally) Arctic winds.

Louise aimed to raise at least £1,000 for the Solihull-based Oesophageal Patients Association, a charity that has played a huge role in helping her father communicate again following treatment for oesophageal cancer and subsequent removal of his voice box. The current total currently stands at almost £1,700.

She said: ‘We applied for the London Marathon and didn’t get in, so we decided to go to Reykjavik with some friends and take part in the marathon there instead. It was so windy on the coast – I can’t even explain how windy it was. But I’m so glad we did our first marathon abroad, it made it even more special.’
