Cardiff and London-based law firm, Capital Law continues to strengthen its senior team with the promotion of corporate lawyer, Alys Carlton, to partner.

Capital Law is one of the UK’s leading providers of legal and other professional business services and employs over 100 staff at its central Cardiff headquarters, across a range of sectors.

The corporate team, of which Alys is part, provides national and international legal advice, principally mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and corporate funding generally.

Alys joined the corporate team as an associate in February 2014, after 11 years at magic circle law firm, Allen & Overy. There, in addition to practising as a corporate lawyer, mainly on cross-border work, she undertook various internal management roles, including managing Allen & Overy’s 240 trainee solicitors.

Welsh speaker Alys specifically works on company reorganisations, joint ventures and equity investments. More recently, her work has involved advising operators of crowd-funding platforms, a growing source of corporate funding, who are coming under increasingly stringent regulation by the FCA.

Alys said: ‘The journey home westward which I made 18 months ago is well-trodden, but I haven’t regretted it for a moment. It is an exciting time to be a new partner in a growing law firm in a city like Cardiff.

‘Because of its size, Capital Law is a much less hierarchical and far more flexible in nature than larger London law firms and I have found the company’s ambition and entrepreneurial outlook liberating.

‘I am thrilled about being appointed partner. It’s certainly a landmark moment in my career.’
