Risk and Compliance Questions and Answers (2nd edition)

£85, Law Society
★★★★★
With more than 200 questions and answers, this updated volume continues to be a smorgasbord of practical and navigable wisdom, not just for risk-management enthusiasts but for everyone wearing a compliance hat.
If compliance is your day job, there is a good chance this book will make your life easier. It helpfully organises the commonly asked risk questions into broad headings (where anti-money laundering issues take centre stage, naturally), and offers consistently clear, practical solutions and tips. That clarity and focus mean that hard-pressed lawyers with a burning question can have an answer swiftly, when it matters. Come to think of it, there is good reason for every solicitor in practice to read it and keep a copy handy. Who hasn’t had one of those ‘let me get back to you on that...’ moments?
But it is not all about AML. This volume offers a safe path through other less well-known operational dilemmas: interpretation of key points in the SRA Accounts Rules; professional ethics and conduct; conflicts; competency; and confidentiality.
For this edition, the authors have updated key details concerning the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act, and commented on the additional duty to treat colleagues fairly and with respect in the SRA Code of Conduct for Solicitors.
The section on preparing for an SRA audit will be particularly helpful, given the regulator’s increasing focus on this area. MLROs and MLCOs will find the AML section invaluable (think of it as your bread-and-butter knowledge).
